| 内容記述 | This paper clarifies the difficulties that foreign students face at university and examines how we can support them. According to a questionnaire to lecturers and interviews with the first.year foreign students, foreign students have problems in understanding lectures and writing term papers. Most students have never had experience writing a term paper in Japanese and have no idea how to write it. Weakness in note.taking skills and logical writing skills were also pointed out. Students remain in the stage of passive learning, and cannot switch to the stage of active learning at university. Therefore, they are not good at finding and solving problems by themselves. Moreover, some foreign students fail to adapt to the Japanese university environment. In order to mitigate such difficulties, foreign students need to practice listening to quasi.lectures while taking notes of important information. In addition, they need training in reading texts critically. Through critical reading training, students get used to thinking logically which will help them when they write term papers. It is important to teach academic study skills necessary for study at a Japanese university in order to help a foreign students become active learners. In and for better foreign student education, Japanese language education should play the role of developing not only students' Japanese ability but also their academic skills. | |||||
