内容記述 Teachers and institutions invest a great deal of time and effort in preparation for courses and lessons, with the presumed primary objective of having everything proceed as planned and without unforeseen problems. Many teaching decisions are likewise made in order to avoid potential problems. There can be times, however, when overcaution becomes a constraint that limits what the teacher can accomplish in the classroom. When it comes to materials selection, many textbooks come in series covering multiple levels, so that different classes in the same program can employ the same series at the level most appropriate for each respective group of students. If a teacher uses authentic materials, the safety net provided by graded texts is eliminated and the level adjustments have to be made by the teacher in designing and presenting classroom and homework assignments using those materials. With the introduction of a new curriculum at a woman's university in Tokyo, the author decided to use the same content-based syllabus for firstyear required Study Skills classes at the highest and lowest levels of the program. This paper is a report on how the semester proceeded and the kinds of adjustments the teacher had to make throughout the term.
