内容記述 | After 1910, Japanese modern literature saw the sharp increase of novels that idealized and idolized ""angelic motherhood."" For the cause of nationalism they were convenient and absolutely ingrained tools and institutions to force women at a national level to sacrificially devote themselves to the role of ""motherhood,"" and thereby to continue to impel them to provide the nation with what it considers superior males. On the other hand, in the modern era, female children could also be utilized for the self-realization of "motherhood." Yoriko Shono attempted to break away from this vicious circle by "slaying idealized motherhood" by way of manipulating language in her Haha-no-Hattatsu (Development of Motherhood ). On the surface it seems that the anecdotes, "Motherhood of 50 syllables," in this novel reveal the deception of "Idealized Right Motherhood" and emancipate mother and daughter from the ideology of idolized motherhood. However, the ideology of idealized motherhood is so inseparably immersed in the national language in the institution of so-called standard Japanese that so far as a novel employs the institution of that particular language, there ultimately and persistently remains the strong obstacles in attempting to completely "slay the idealized motherhood." *Toshishun by Ryunosuke Akutagawa : Toshishun, an adolescent hero in ancient China, attempts to attain the qualified state of a super-human immortal, having grown tired of the secular human world. However, while practicing the austere training of keeping complete silence, he ends up breaking the rule of this practice, crying, "Mother!", because he can no longer endure witnessing the harsh suffering of his parents, who have been put to the torture of flogging because of the ambition of their son. | |||||
